Spring has sprung and we have been down in the woods looking for the signs of new shoots, snowdrops and daffodils. Looking forward to our Easter fun and crafts day on Sunday 9th April 2017 2-4pm including Easter hunt, bake sale and crafts here at the pavilion. Everyone is welcome.
We've had a busy half term learning about our senses - making 'cool' glasses with green lenses, smelling and tasting different foods and baking. 'The Man from Tesco' - David Ryley - came to visit bringing a variety of fruits for us to taste. We looked at the packaging to see where the fruits came from and the grown ups showed us on the globe. Some of us enjoyed tasting the fruits more than others! Just before half term we borrowed the 'Dental Box' which had stories, games and resources in it to help us learn to look after our teeth and avoid too many sugary foods and drinks.
Happy New Year!
We had a great end to our last half term with our Christmas Show where the children sang and performed stories and songs - we were very proud of them all. Thankyou to the committee who organised a brilliant raffle and to all those who donated to this.
Our Christmas party was great fun and Father Christmas kindly took time out of his busy schedule to pay a visit.
We begin the new year thinking about keeping ourselves healthy and look forward to welcoming our new starters.
It's been a good start to the year. We miss the children who left to go to 'Big School' but hear they are doing well and our new starters have settled in. Amongst other things we have celebrated Harvest, had a week of 'pirates' and related songs, made apple crumble and baked bread, dressed up and acted out some of our favourite stories and spent a lot of time in the woods. Katie Parsons has been joining us in the woods on a Tuesday afternoon on a 6 week placement, bringing with her new ideas to try out with the children. Dawn from Frenchtastic continues to come once a week for half an hour to do French.
On 23 August the 'Eco Warriors' - a Lifestyle Team from Walkington Pre-School - organised a hugely successful fundraising morning at Walkington Methodist Church and have chosen to donate the money to Pre School. The morning included drinks, home made cakes, raffle, guess the name of the teddy, all whilst listening to live music. There was great community spirit. Thankyou to all those involved and especially the team themselves - Lucy, Leah, Beatrice and Isabella.
During the week of 21st March 2016, children from Walkington Preschool are invited to take part in the Giant Wiggle - a national fund-raiser on behalf of Action for Children.
Once again, we are very grateful to Walkington Panto Players for allowing Preschool to host a night of their annual spring play. This year the play is 'Cheshire Cats' by Gail Young, about a group of women who travel from Cheshire to London to take part in the Moonwalk.
This gives us the chance to be part of a great village night out, at the same time as raising funds for the Preschool - both through ticket sales and a raffle on the evening.
Tickets will be on sale very soon for the play, which runs from Tuesday 17th May to Saturday 21st May. Preschool's night is Saturday 21st May. Tickets are £7.50 and are available from Preschool committee members or by telephoning 07818 892729.
Wednesday 24th February is National Read Aloud Day. To mark this, children's author, Christina Gabbitas, will be visiting preschool. As well as being an author, Christina is a poet and voiceover artist. She was recently awarded the Beryl Bainbridge prize for encouraging children's reading and writing. On Wednesday morning, Christina will share some of her stories with the children.
The children are really enjoying their French sessions with Frenchtastic Dawn every Thursday this term. Through stories and songs, the children are learning some basic French vocabulary and they are even working on a song for the Christmas show all about Papa Noel!
At our recent AGM, the new Committee was duly elected. Rachael Winter retired as Chair and our new Chair is Becky Kendall. Helen Wilson remains as Vice-Chair, Jane Berriman as Treasurer and we have a new secretary, Leanne Smith. Welcome to our new committee members and a sad farewell to retiring members. We would particularly like to thank Rachael for all her hard work on the committee over the past three years as secretary, treasurer and chair!
